As Good As Gold

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or LEED, is the most widely used green building rating system in the world. It provides a set of guidelines for the creation of highly efficient and cost-effective buildings. Each project being considered for LEED must adhere to strict regulations to determine its certification level (Certified, Silver, Gold, or Platinum).
In September, the MA-designed 1620 Central, a residential development in Evanston, IL, was awarded LEED for Homes Gold® Certification. The project's sustainable elements include an extensive green roof, common areas powered by solar energy, low-flow fixtures, low-voc paint, and the use of recycled materials. Furthermore, the development's prominent location, surrounded by a retail district and Northwestern University along with its proximity to public transportation, made the site ideal for residents with a transit-oriented lifestyle.
